KhizooologyThe Rise and Reign of the Mammals
Our family history began long before us.
Big Idea
Brusatte shows how mammals’ long evolutionary history and changing environments produced the diverse lineages that include humans today.
Before the Takeover
Mammal ancestry reaches back well before the extinction of non-avian dinosaurs.
A Package of Traits
Milk, hair, specialized teeth, and other features developed through a long evolutionary history.
Surviving Catastrophe
Survival after the asteroid opened possibilities for mammal lineages to diversify.
Many Ways to Live
Mammals evolved into swimmers, flyers, large grazers, and many other ecological roles.
One Branch among Many
Humans are one surviving branch of a tree containing many extinct and living species.
Khizooo Take
Treat human evolution as part of a wider animal history, rather than as a ladder whose purpose was to produce us.
Remember
The mammal story is larger than the human story.
